Growing up with a creative and artistic family someone was always indirectly teaching me something. Whether it was woodworking and building with my Grandpa, going to craft marts with my Nanny to sell her sewing creations, to baking with my Mom and building her business, painting with my Grandma, or playing the piano with my Granddad. I didn’t realize it at the time, but there was always something creative going on.
In more recent years I realized I missed that creativity and happened upon concrete, and then resin, mixed with some woodworking. Creating things out of concrete is by far my favorite. Concrete is the most forgiving in regards to the beginning process. You can add a little more concrete or a little more water until you’re satisfied. There’s some science involved with the curing and temperature and the way it all comes together and throw in some awesome pigment for color and it’s a pretty neat process…time consuming, but neat and rewarding. Oh and it should last for a while…just ask the Romans…I mean…their concrete creations are still standing. Resin is my second favorite medium to work with. You can do so much with it and add so many things to it, creatively it’s a blast! However it is very precise and sometimes that is not my strongest attribute. Perfection is, but precision in relation to weighing or measuring items, well, that’s the reason I’m more of a cook and not a baker (I’ll leave that to my Mom). Woodworking is something I always really enjoyed, but it takes many more tools and much more space than I currently have…which can be a challenge. Therefore I like to incorporate wood at times, but not my full focus.
So with my family in mind and my need to unleash the creative side of myself, I started making concrete pots for both plants and personal items, a few tables (both from concrete and resin), coasters, small and large trays. Next came a lot of support and constructive advise from friends and family it was time to bring my creations to you. I hope my pots and creations bring you as much happiness as it does me to make them. There are of course going to be some imperfections on finished pieces, but that’s what makes them handmade and not from a machine. I take great pride in making each piece as perfect as I can so it can be enjoyed, by you, to the fullest.
